Privacy Policy

Drift is developed and published by Hollow Tree EC, LLC ("we," "our," or "us"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use the Drift mobile application ("the App").

Information We Collect

Information Stored Only on Your Device

The following data is created and stored locally in the App's private sandbox on your device. We never receive, access, or transmit this data unless you enable Cloud Sync (described below).

• Sleep session data: bedtime, wake time, sound mixes used, snooze count, mission completion times, and self-reported morning mood.
• Alarm schedules: your alarm configurations, including times, days, mission types, and preferences.
• Sound presets: your saved sound mixer configurations.
• Photo mission reference images: if you use the Photo Match alarm mission, the reference photo is stored only in the App's private sandbox. It is never saved to your Camera Roll, uploaded to any server, or shared with anyone. Photos taken during the mission exist only in temporary memory and are immediately discarded after comparison.
• QR/barcode data: if you use the QR Scan alarm mission, only the text value of your registered code is stored locally. No images of codes are saved.
• App preferences: your settings, onboarding choices, and display preferences.

Information from Apple Frameworks (On-Device Only)

With your explicit permission, the App may read data from Apple's built-in frameworks. This data is processed entirely on your device and is never transmitted to us or any third party.

• HealthKit: With your permission, the App reads sleep analysis data to display sleep quality insights. The App may also write mindful minutes to HealthKit during wind-down sessions. We never use HealthKit data for advertising, and we never share it with third parties.
• Calendar and Reminders: With your permission, the App reads today's calendar events and reminders to display them in your Morning Briefing. Access is read-only — the App never creates, modifies, or deletes your events or reminders.
• Camera: The App uses your camera only for Photo Match and QR Scan alarm missions. Photos taken during missions are processed in memory and immediately discarded.
• Location: With your permission, the App uses your approximate location solely to retrieve local weather data from Apple's WeatherKit service. We do not store, log, or track your location history.
• Motion: The App uses accelerometer data for Shake and Exercise alarm missions. Motion data is processed in real time and is never recorded or stored.

Information Sent to Third-Party Services

The App uses a small number of third-party services. None of these services receive your health data, sleep data, photos, calendar information, or any personally identifiable information.

Cloud Sync (Premium Feature, Opt-In Only)

Cloud Sync is an optional Premium feature that is disabled by default. If you choose to enable it, alarm schedules, sound presets, sleep session history, and app preferences are synced to our secure servers using HTTPS encryption and stored with encryption at rest.

The following data is never synced: photos, HealthKit data, calendar or reminders data, and location data.

How We Use Your Information

We use information solely to provide and improve the App. We do not sell your personal data, use your data for advertising, share your health or sleep data with third parties, build profiles for marketing, or use your data to train machine learning models.

Data Retention and Deletion

You control your data and can delete any or all of it at any time from Settings:

Data Export

You can export all of your data as a JSON file from Settings → Account → Export My Data.

Children's Privacy

Drift is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.

Your Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access your personal data (use the Export feature), delete your data (use the deletion options in Settings), opt out of analytics (disable in Settings), and revoke permissions at any time in your device's Privacy settings.

For users in the EEA, we process data based on your consent for optional features and our legitimate interest in providing and improving the App. For users in California, we do not sell personal information as defined by the CCPA.

Security

We protect your data through on-device storage in the App's private sandbox, HTTPS/TLS encryption for all network communication, encryption at rest for cloud-stored data, and row-level security ensuring data isolation between users.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by updating the "Last Updated" date and providing notice within the App for significant changes.
